This year, at the Highways Heroes awards, we are asking every company who attends our ceremony to bring a present to place under our Christmas tree at this year’s event.
All presents donated will be given to the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal, who believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas time.
What is the Christmas Present Appeal?
Previously, the Salvation Army distributed more than 76,000 gifts, with the expectation of this to continue to rise.
Many Salvation Army churches and centres across the UK will be running a Christmas Present Appeal again in 2024, collecting donated presents until mid-December.
As a guide:
We will be asking for all organisations to wrap a present in either pink or blue wrapping paper according to gender of the child the present is intended for.
Please follow the guidelines below for the age specific resents we are asking for organisations to donate:
- 0-3 years: dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, puzzles
- 3-5: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles
- 5-9: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords

On completion of the ceremony, we will collect the donated presents, and deliver to the Salvation Army the following day, fulfilling the aim of ensuring every child has a present this Christmas Time.
The Highways Heroes Foundation was set up to support the homeless, offer second chances to young adults, provide rehabilitation to ex-offenders and create pathways into the engineering sector; all of which serve to empower future generations to look upon our sector as a career of choice rather than one of last resort.
Every year the Highways Heroes Awards donate 10% of our profits as well as time and expertise to social value projects from across the UK as we strive to improve the communities in which we work.
Explaining the reasons for the initiatives, Highways Heroes Head of Social Value and Systems Co-Ordinator, Ellie Pollard, says ‘supporting the Salvation Army's Christmas Present Appeal is a profound honour for the Highways Heroes Foundation. It is a testament to our commitment to spreading joy and hope during the winter season, ensuring that every child experiences the magic of Christmas. Together, we can illuminate the spirit of giving and strengthen the bonds of our community.’
Further details will be announced in due course.
