After four years stalwart will step down after this year’s event.
After four years as the anchor host of the Highways Heroes, industry stalwart Rich Marshall has announced that this year’s event will be his last as anchor host.
Having fronted the event since its launch in 2021 Rich has decided that this will be his fourth and last event.
During his time as host Rich has also been head judge for two of the four years and been pivotal in establishing the ceremony as the blue ribband events ceremony and indeed the only one which recognises the unsung heroes in our sector.
Speaking about his decision Rich said,
“I remember when I first learned about the Heroes I thought wow what an amazing event, something completely different to every corporate awards ceremony in our industry.
“The fact it was so different truly excited me and I wont lie I badgered Kevin (Robinson, the organiser) to be a part of it.
“Luckily in year 1 diaries aligned and we were able to facilitate me the enormous privilege of standing on a stage in a post covid era and recognising some of our key workers who had moved heaven and earth to keep our network moving in what was a once in a generation crisis.
“We all agreed at the time it was a one-off, but four years on look where this event has come, look at how it has grown and the standing it now has.
“After four years as host I actually want to be able to come down to London, don my dinner suit and enjoy the night as much as everyone I have hosted at the event.”
But Rich wont be going away, he will assume the role of Head Judge of the event in 2025 and will become the Life President of the Highways Heroes, ensuring future generations truly understand what this event means to the industry, as well as in some part being involved in the ceremony for years to come.
Speaking about the man whom he dubs Mr Highways Heroes, Kevin Robinson said,
“Rich my friend, what can I say, something we planned as a one off developed into something so beautiful we should all be proud.
“You have been there since day 1 and still are to this day, and I hope “will be there for years to come.
“Never did I imagine we would achieve so much with a simple little idea.
“That is in no small part down to you my friend.”
This year Rich will be joined on stage by Justin Manley, with the event taking place on 28th November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
