Highways Heroes to rename its ultimate accolade the Kevin Jarvis Hero in Highways Award in honour of one of our own



Blue riband awards ceremony take the step of naming ultimate accolade in memory of Kevin Jarvis, tragically killed as a result of a vehicle incursion.


Sponsored by Baker Hicks the Hero in Highways award has long been the pinnacle of the industry blue ribband Highways Heroes event and this year in our drive to further embed the recognition of the unsung heroes in our , with the support of our sponsors Baker Hicks, the Highways Heroes awards have taken the unprecedented step of renaming the award in honour of one of its former winners, Kevin Jarvis.


On the 26th February 2022 Kevin was tragically killed when his stationary vehicle was stuck by a member of the public travelling at speeds in excess of 100mph. Kevin died instantly at the scene with the vehicle he was in at the time a crumpled wreck with the rear wheels coming to rest underneath the drivers seat.


In the December of that year, his widow, Julie, accepted the Hero in Highways award on behalf of her late husband, accompanied by her son and his wife.


In renaming the award, Highways Heroes hopes to ensure that Kevin's name is never forgotten and becomes synonymous with roadworker safety.


On the night Kevin's widow Julie Jarvis will be present at the ceremony and will present the award alongside sponsors Baker Hicks.


Speaking about the announcement, Julie Jarvis said,


"I'm delighted and honoured to be asked to  present this special award at a prestigious event that recognises the often unseen, unheard acts of kindness, bravery & dedication from workers in this industry.


"Kevin would also be incredibly honoured to see an award bearing his name being received by someone with the same passion for their work as he had.  I am very much looking forward to being a part of this event celebrating the unsung heroes of our highways."


Taking place at the London Hilton, Park Lane in Soho on 28th November, the awards will not only recognise those who have gone above and beyond their duty, but also those that have helped someone or improved a situation, either in the communities they work in or to unconditionally support fellow workers in their team.
