Sector’s Blue Ribband event to donate profits to social value projects.

Highways Heroes, the sector’s blue ribband awards ceremony which celebrates the unsung heroes in our sector have announced that in partnership with its sponsors it will donate 10% of all future profits from the event to social enterprises which seek to create pathways into our sector for young people.

The event takes place annually in London, recognising those individuals whose achievements would otherwise go unheralded and is as such, unique in the sector.

From its iconic trophies to a reputation for delivering an event which is beyond compare in the industry, the Highways Heroes has now firmly established itself as one of the premier, must attend events in the calendar.

In keeping with its ethos of giving back to the industry it supports, the organisers and its judges have now pledged to work with a number of social value enterprises to genuinely change perceptions around our sector and truly make it a career of choice.

These include:

· Programmes to reintegrate young adults from socially deprived backgrounds into mainstream society providing them with work experience and mentoring to ensure we break the cycle of low social aspiration

· Work with partners to deliver in school engagement projects to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to see our industry as a career of choice and not one of last resort

Speaking about the announcement, Kevin Robinson, founder of the Highways Heroes awards said,

“The Heroes have always been about recognising those in our wonderful industry who go above and beyond, not just as a part of their day to day job but outside of that.

“Our sector is a wonderful place to work and sadly we are not good at shouting about that outside of our own four walls.

“The creation of a legacy and tapping into the workforce of tomorrow is something which is vital to provide a sustainable future for all of us, but most importantly we all have a social responsibility to provide the next generation, and indeed the lost generation of today, with pathways to many of the wonderful careers we have to offer.”

As a part of the pledge the Highways Heroes will work with a number of organisations across the UK with achievements highlighted throughout the year through our own media platforms and those of our partners to encourage others to join our journey.
