Heroes 23 shortlist features record number of SME and tier 2 contractors

Tier 2 contractors outnumber tier 1 and client by 3 to 1 on this year's shortlist

In a first, this year's Highways Heroes shortlist has seen an unprecedented number of tier 2 contractors nominated with the number making the finals outnumbering the more established tier 1 contractors by almost 3:1 in a year where the awards recoded a record 300+ nominations.

New organisations who have seen individuals recognised include Volker Highways, Roocroft, Telent and Morrison Energy Services alongside regular finalists Balfour Beatty, Kier, Bam and Amey.

The awards, which will take place at the DeVere Grand Connaught Rooms on the 30th November are the blue ribband event for our sector and indeed the only awards ceremony which truly recognises the remarkable achievements of individuals within our supply chain.

Speaking about the shift in nominations and how these awards are truly braking down barriers, founder Kevin Robinson said,

"When myself, Lizz Robinson and Helen Blood conceptualised the Highways Heroes Awards we wanted a ceremony which truly recognised the individuals who carry out thankless tasks day on day and go over and above, many times with little or no recognition.

"This was never about organisational recognition but actually truly shining a light on the truly amazing individuals who work within our amazing industry.

"To see organisations right down our supply chain embracing that ethos is something which I find truly moving and indeed very humbling.

"I congratulate each and every one of our shortlisted individuals, irrespective of who you work for."
